Spice up your autumn

Physalis franchetii 'Gigantea'

With autumn upon us, it’s time to celebrate the delightful glowing colours and late flowering plants that make the shortening days more enjoyable. Physalis franchetii ‘Gigantea’ is a new addition to our 2017 range of plants and really brings colourful interest to a container or border at this time of year.

Also known as Chinese Lanterns, this herbaceous perennial has attractive, bright, orange lantern-shaped seed heads that appear in autumn; fading to skeletal cases that reveal a tiny orange fruit inside. These appear from the start of September and continue well past Halloween.

Physalis is an ideal plant for container displays, providing excellent end of year interest and combines well with Heucheras. We have planted ours with Heuchera ‘Green Spice’ (VR) and Heuchera ‘Licorice’ (P)

Our full range of Heuchera and our new Physalis can be found in our 2017 catalogue, available now!
